British police arrested 12 people over a suspected far-right terrorism threat targeting an Islamic event attended by about 15,000 people.

"Following new information and evidence, they (counter-terrorism police) are now leading on the investigation into the horrific murder of Ann Widdecombe," interior minister Shabana Mahmood stated.

Ministers fast-tracked the National (State Threats) Bill, as promised by the prime minister. The existing legislation to proscribe terror groups did not extend to state-backed groups.
