The treaty covers cooperation in defense, trade, energy, science, and culture, aiming to deepen their political alignment while countering Western economic pressure and sanctions.

Iran has said that it “supports any initiatives that ends the Israeli invasion of Gaza and the ongoing genocide in occupied Palestine, and protects the nation’s rights.”

The agreement was signed by Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev and Iran's top nuclear official, Mohammad Eslami, at a meeting in Moscow. Rosatom described it as a "strategic project."

Eslami is also Iran's vice president. RIA did not say whom he would meet in Moscow.

Israel largely destroyed Iran's air defenses during the war, and much of its stockpile of ballistic weapons is believed to have been damaged by Israeli strikes.

The meeting followed talks on Sunday between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ali Larijani, a senior adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
