A new phenomenon: Whisky aged in beer barrels, which held beer aged in whisky barrels.

The Boston Lehrhaus is expected to open after the High Holidays this fall.

Israelis attended the event from all parts of the country in order to try beers from 15 local breweries.

The festival also boasts a slate of international beer companies including German brands like ‘Köstritzer’ and the Dutch ale company ‘Trappe la.’

“We wanted the Jerusalem Beer Festival to open the capital’s summer events season rather than close it,” said organizer Eli Giladi.

Here in Israel, our craft breweries have issued some new beers just in time for the summer days.

The graffiti inside the tunnel is third-rate, the work of an angry teenager. The air hangs heavy with the stench of urine and stale weed.

Since most of the beers chosen for maturing are high alcohol by volume anyway, the barrel aging makes them darker, even more flavorful and often more boozy.

Ancient ornate tubes may have been used for communal beer drinking in a funerary rite.
