The talks between Iran and US are still set to focus on Iran's nuclear program and capabilities, NYT noted, citing three Iranian officials and one Arab official.

Abbas Araghchi told CNN that miscalculations could trigger war with the US, while insisting Iran remains open to a deal on nuclear weapons.

Iran's current goal appears to be getting some countries that have influence with the United States to intercede on its behalf in order to avoid potential military action.

Top Iranian security official Ali Larijani stated that "the formation of a structure for #negotiations is underway" in a statement released on social media.
