Graham, one of Trump's closest allies in the Senate, died over the weekend after a brief illness.

Graham died Saturday, aged 71, following what his office described as a “brief and sudden illness.” His office did not immediately disclose an official cause of death.  

"As much as it frustrates me, this process takes time... And on the advice of my doctors, I won’t be able to return to the Senate floor to vote quite yet," said US Senator Mitch McConnell.

With Graham dead, McConnell still in the hospital, and midterms approaching, it looks like the Republicans' supermajority in Congress could shift.

"I'll stand with Israel until the day I die. It is our greatest ally," Graham told The Jerusalem Post in an interview just a few months before his death.

Senate hopeful John Deaton warned that mixed messages from Trump and Netanyahu over the Iran war are eroding American trust in Israel and strengthening Tehran.
