As antisemitism surges across the world, particularly in Europe and the US, South Africa has also made headlines with the government’s case at the International Court of Justice, accusing Israel of genocide and war crimes in Gaza. 

Despite this stance, many Jewish South Africans say their daily concerns are shaped less by antisemitism and more by general crime – and that attitudes toward Israel are more mixed, and often more supportive, than outsiders might assume.
