Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana sent a letter of condolence this week to Ahmed Charai, publisher of the Jerusalem Strategic Tribune and chairman and CEO of World Herald Tribune Inc., following the death of Charai’s mother, Meriem Charai.

In the letter, Ohana described Charai as “a pillar of integrity and public service,” and referred to his longstanding ties with Israel and the Jewish people.

Charai, a Moroccan publisher and commentator, has publicly expressed support for Israel in recent years, including after the October 7 Hamas attacks. He condemned the attacks and has promoted regional cooperation and dialogue through the Jerusalem Strategic Tribune, as well as through TV Abraham and Radio Abraham.

Ohana’s message highlighted the relationship between the two men and acknowledged Charai’s public positions on Israel and the region.

Meriem Charai died earlier this week.
