Israel warned Germany of an increased risk of attacks against US military bases on its territory, particularly Ramstein Air Base and Spangdahlem Air Base, The New York Times reported on Saturday, citing a senior US official.
Both Ramstein and Spangdahlem are used by NATO air forces, with the former serving as the headquarters for the United States Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa and NATO Allied Air Command.
According to the report, the warning was issued following intelligence received in mid-September indicating the possibility of Iranian-backed attacks against US facilities in Europe, including RAF Fairford in the UK.
The intelligence assessments also included concerns about possible drone attacks, but did not point to a specific time or target.
On September 23, media outlets affiliated with Iran published remarks by a former senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps official who explicitly mentioned Ramstein Air Base as one of the facilities used by the US in its war against Iran.
Netanyahu says Israeli intelligence helped thwart UK attack
Also on Saturday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sharply criticized the British government in an interview with The Daily Mail, accusing it of "behaving like a rogue state" and appeasing what he called the "Islamist-leftist alliance."
Netanyahu said Israel had provided British security services with intelligence that helped thwart a deadly Iranian-backed attack on RAF Fairford.
"Had it not been for the intelligence we provided, the attack would probably have gone ahead, and we do not know how many Britons would have been killed," he claimed, adding: "They are appeasing their enemies and attacking those who defend them."
Netanyahu also claimed on Saturday that Israel had provided British security services with intelligence that helped thwart a deadly Iranian-backed attack on RAF Fairford.
Netanyahu addresses Flydubai incident and Iran
In the interview, Netanyahu also addressed an alleged attempt to crash a flydubai plane en route to Israel.
"As time passes, the picture is becoming clearer: The attacker underwent Islamist radicalization. He came to crash the plane with its passengers. We are investigating whether he was sent, and whoever sent him will pay a heavy price."
Speaking about the Iranian regime, Netanyahu said: "This regime will fall. Right now it is very weak, and [US] President [Donald] Trump's blockade is severely weakening the IRGC. Your day of freedom will come."
