One person was killed and 17 were injured after a vehicle drove into the crowd at Berlin's Christopher Street Day Pride event on Saturday night, Berlin police announced.
Earlier, the Berlin police had announced that the event was canceled on Saturday night after a vehicle drove into the crowd, striking and injuring several people.
"According to our latest information, the vehicle drove... into the Tiergarten around 10 p.m., injuring several people in the process, and then came to a standstill after hitting a tree here in the Tiergarten," a police spokesperson at the scene said.
"It was empty, which is why we are currently working intensively to track down the perpetrator or perpetrators."
Bild cited a witness as saying a white van drove into the crowd at high speed and a man then got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.
The police stated that officers and rescue units were on the scene, and that they were conducting a manhunt for the suspect.
Emergency services were treating the injured at the scene, police said, adding that there were "numerous injured, including several with life-threatening injuries."

Hundreds of thousands of people had gathered peacefully in the German capital for the annual Christopher Street Day celebrations, one of Europe's largest Pride events, before the incident ended the festivities.
First held in West Berlin in 1979, the CSD has grown from a small demonstration into a major fixture of the city's cultural and political calendar. The parade is the centerpiece of the CSD, but it is accompanied by a wide range of political, cultural and party events held across the city.
